Rossa Avenue Student Accommodation, Cork
The proposed scheme draws strong influence from its immediate context, responding sensitively to the established character of the surrounding built environment. Its scale and material palette reflect the architectural language of the area, ensuring a cohesive and respectful addition to the streetscape.
The majority of the development comprises three-storey townhouse-style units, carefully arranged to define new streetscapes and frame a generous central amenity courtyard at the heart of the site. Two four-storey buildings are positioned at key corner locations, forming prominent nodal markers that anchor and bookend the scheme while reinforcing its urban presence.
Connectivity and permeability have been fundamental to the design approach. Established desire lines inform the layout, creating intuitive and legible movement routes throughout the development. The central courtyard is accessible from both east and west, while each dwelling is directly addressed and accessed from the street it fronts onto, promoting active frontages and a strong sense of place.
The project consists of 203 en-suite bedrooms within 29 units (16 townhouses & 13 apartments).
Mardyke Student Accommodation, Cork (Phase 01)
This student accommodation development is located on Mardyke Walk which is to the west of Cork City Centre. The site is in a prominent location and is situated directly across from the entrance to Fitzgerald’s Park. The development is located in an Architectural Conservation Area and the design is a direct response to the site context making a positive contribution to the streetscape in which it is set. The project consists of 41 en-suite bedrooms within 10 apartments.
Mardyke Student Accommodation, Cork (Phase 02)
Following the successful completion of Phase 01 at Mardyke Walk, we were appointed to design a second phase on an adjoining site, conceived as a natural and cohesive extension of the original development.
Phase 02 delivers 79 en-suite student bedrooms, including four fully accessible rooms, arranged across 15 apartments. The scheme also incorporates the retention and refurbishment of the existing Hawthorn House, which now provides dedicated lounge, study, and meeting spaces for residents.
Building on the architectural language and established urban presence of the first phase, the development strengthens the identity of the wider Mardyke student community while enhancing the overall residential offering on the site.
Dorgan’s Road Student Accommodation, Cork
Dorgan’s Road is a two-phase student accommodation development located in close proximity to University College Cork main campus. The development consists of the refurbishment of the existing Dunleary House, which is on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, and the addition of 12 new townhouse units. Overall the site provides 79 student bed spaces which are a positive contribution to the significant demand for student accommodation in Cork City. The architectural approach focused on the creation of high quality spaces that serve to enliven the fabric of the area in which it is set.
